With two young children, our clients really wanted us to create a space where the kids could read and play, while still providing a setting for the adults to lounge around and watch a good movie. Fortunately, we were able to work with the client’s existing couch, which fit perfectly in this space, and layered in some great textured and patterned pillows, along with this great knitted ottoman pouf. We added a pair of light grey draperies to flank the large windows in the room and help soften the space up a bit. The neutral, striped area rug helps to add some visual interest while providing the kids with a softer surface to play on.

We added three long wall shelves to provide storage for the children’s books, as well as a place to display pictures of the family. For storage of the kids’ toys, we added two large baskets, which add a great touch of texture and warmth to the space. On the other side of the room we added a gallery wall to display large portraits of each of the children. The end result is a space that is perfect for the kids to read books and play, while at the same time providing the adults with somewhere to comfortably lounge and spend some quiet time…form and function, always!
