When our clients purchased this gorgeous home at the beginning of the year, they knew that one of the first spaces they wanted to tackle was the backyard. With the Southern California summer just around the corner, they enlisted our help to create an outdoor haven where they could spend time with family and friends, and the kids could enjoy the sun while splashing around in the pool! In keeping with the traditional style of the home, and our client’s East Coast roots, we went with a timeless combination of natural teak outdoor furniture, paired with soft blues and grays, as well as classic striped patio umbrellas. A pair of inviting lounge chairs were placed poolside, allowing our clients to relax and enjoy, while soaking up the always amazing So Cal weather (just add favorite refreshing adult beverage).

We created a second seating area on the opposite side of the pool around the outdoor fire pit, to enable our clients to fully take advantage of those long summer nights! A white ceramic garden stool situated between the pair of chairs provides the perfect place to set your drink while the kids enjoy roasting marshmallows and making s’mores, while creating long lasting family memories.

With the amazing year round weather in L.A., there is almost always a good reason to be outside. Which means having an outdoor living area where the family can watch sports on the weekend, or lounge on the sofa and take a quick nap under the breeze, is pretty much a must-have. Here we grounded the outdoor living space with a classic gingham patterned rug, continuing the soft blue and gray color palette from the pool area, while adding some coordinating striped pillows.

When you’re working with such a large and expansive outdoor area, it’s important to have well-defined and separate spaces for specific activities. Under the main patio covering, we created an al fresco dining area, where our client’s family can gather together to enjoy their meals and discuss their day’s adventures. For the small seating area adjacent to the dining area, we paired a couple of wicker arm chairs, which bring a great textural, yet still timeless element to the space, and again provided continuity through our consistent color palette with a pairing of lumbar and throw pillows.

With all of the Covid related stay-at-home restrictions this year, and families not being able to get out and about away from their homes, we feel so grateful to have been able to create an outdoor oasis for our clients, to help them escape the monotony of the day-to-day repetition that plagued most of 2020.
